CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Federal legislation was introduced to ban weighted sleepwear for children ages one and younger.

UVA Health says that the product many parents may think is beneficial has no proof that it’s helping and could actually be causing more harm than good.

"The potential benefit that you might get from this, which is totally unproven, is not worth the risk," said Dr. Rachel Moon.

They also say that there are no safety standards for weighted sleepwear for children which means that there could be a dangerous amount of weight on a baby’s chest.
