CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Lellie King bears many titles -- student, athlete, community leader, but the one that means the most to her is being a coach's daughter.
"My dad being my coach adds a third dimension that most people don't see when we go home," King said. "Lacrosse follows me home, which I love."
From an early age, the lacrosse stick has always been in Lellie's hands, following in the footsteps of her father who played lacrosse at Maryland.
"All those times in the backyard playing with my siblings and my dogs and training together and training with him was just me trying to feed of the magic I feel like he experienced at Maryland," King said.
"She works hard," STAB girls lacrosse coach Carrington King said. "She's a grinder. Nothing has ever come -- some kids are naturally naturally gifted. She works really hard."
But her development isn't exclusive to her dad, it's also a result of the team's core group of seniors that play together on Cav Lax Elite.
"The first day of practice this season was a little bittersweet because we know it's the last season, but we are definitely going to pour it all out this season because what we have together is so special," Lellie King said.
And her time serving her community and her teammates isn't over. Lellie will continue her career next fall with the defending Ivy League champion, Penn.
"I'm going to miss her smile when she comes up," Lellie King said. "She always gives dad a big smile and just the passion that she's got for the game. There's a time during their senior year when you can tell an athlete is ready to jump out of the nest and it's time to go and fly somewhere, so I'm excited for them, but it is bittersweet."
