CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Most people know that driving under the influence is illegal and extremely dangerous, but some people decide to do it anyway.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about 37 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes every day. That's one person every 39 minutes.
With transportation companies such as Uber or Lyft more accessible than ever, there is no excuse for drinking and driving.
“Drunk driving is a gamble with lives, where the stakes are too high and the consequences unforgiving,” said the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
In the middle of August, Governor Glenn Youngkin launched his new enhanced 2024 DUI enforcement and public education campaign, they're now saying "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" to remind Virginians to get a safe ride home after drinking or face arrest.
